The Burpee is a great strength and aerobic exercise. Burpees have been around since the beginning of time and are used by many sports professionals and are a staple in the CrossFit community.

I’ve watched a lot of Burpee videos (trying to get the form down) and I feel Carl Paoli (@carlpaoli) explains it best. Watch his guide below:

As you can see, he demonstrates how to use your body’s momentum to pop yourself back upright. Imagine doing a WOD that requires you to do 5 sets of 15 burpees, 15 pull-ups, and 30 squats. Just trying to push yourself up with your arms during the Burpee will get you really tired, really fast and it will be difficult to finish the workout that way.

CrossFit isn’t always about making your body work harder. It’s more about efficiency; doing exercises in the quickest, most effective way possible.
